Dailymotion Recommendation Tools Transparency
At Dailymotion, we recommend content (videos, topics, channels,..) within different part of the Dailymotion Properties and most of these recommendations are powered by algorithms:
- Our “Explore” feed:
That’s the content feed available in the “Explore” dedicated section in the Dailymotion application and on the homepage of the Dailymotion Site, where you scroll from one video to the next.
This algorithm only recommends content posted recently according to several criteria (some personalized for You and some not), but with the primary goal of promoting the diversity of points of view and nuancing opinions.
To do so, the algorithm will take several parameters into account:
- the date upon which the content was posted to make sure the content recommended is recent;
- the semantic used in the videos (using their transcript), their titles as well as their metadata to suggest you videos talking of similar matters to the topic of the videos with which you interacted during your session and allowing whenever possible a diversity of points of view;
- the popularity of the videos (videos the most viewed, commented, shared or positively rated) available on the Dailymotion Service to recommend you videos that are usually watched by other Visitors in connection to videos you interacted with;
- the popularity of the videos (videos the most viewed, commented, shared or positively rated) available on the Dailymotion Service to recommend you the most performing videos on the Dailymotion Service recently;
- the channels you follow to recommend you videos posted in them.
- Our “Video to video” feed:
That’s the content feed suggesting additional content to watch after the video the Visitor is currently watching on the Dailymotion Properties and based on:
- Videos that most Visitors watched after the video the Visitor is currently watching;
- Videos having a similar object than the video the Visitor is currently watching, based on the semantic used in the videos (transcript, title, metadata) but allowing whenever possible a diversity of points of view;
- For Users logged into a Dailymotion Account only, videos that are close to what the logged-in Users usually watch based on the Users’ watching history and the channels they follow;
- Videos from the same channel, the same User or from similar channels available on the Dailymotion Service (e.g.: recommending after a cooking video some videos posted by another channel dedicated to cooking videos);
- The most popular videos on the Dailymotion Service recently.
The key parameter of such algorithm is the video that is watched initially in order to propose whenever possible videos nuancing opinions and enabling diversity of points of views.
- Our “React” feed:
That’s the content feed dedicated to the Reacts posted by the Dailymotion Service’s Users in reaction to videos posted by other Users from the latest to the oldest.
- Our “Follow” feed:
That’s the content feed enabling Users to access the latest Content posted on the Dailymotion Service by channels they follow from the latest to the oldest.
- Our “Comments” feed:
That’s the feed enabling Visitors to access the comments posted in connection to a video from the latest to the oldest.
- Our Search results:
