Summary of our Privacy Policy

We care about your Privacy

A Privacy Policy is a document that aims to explain what information we collect about you, why we collect it, and how we protect it. Below is a summary of our Privacy Policy.

What data we collect about you?

When you use Dailymotion, we can collect data such as:

  • personal information you declared to us about you (ex. name, age, email), directly or via the third-party login method you chose, if any,
  • data about your browser or internet connection, your device, and your activity on our platform (ex. which videos you watch or interact with on our service);
  • data from third parties (data aggregators, affiliates, business partners), if you agreed to it.

Why do we collect data?

The main reasons we collect your data are:

  • To provide the Dailymotion Service: we use it to allow you to use Dailymotion, to show you videos, to show you ads and to allow you to use Dailymotion features.
  • To communicate with you: to send you news about Dailymotion.
  • To personalize the Service: to suggest videos and ads based on your likes.
  • For Safety: Your information helps protect users and prevent misuse of the platform.
  • For Service Improvement: study how people use the service to make it better.

These are the main reasons why we collect and use your information, but there are others which are explained in more detail in our full Privacy Policy.

In any case, we only collect data we are allowed or obliged to collect. In order words, we need to have a good reason, which can be:

  • a legal obligation: we also have to follow certain rules or laws, like making sure you’re old enough to use the service, meaning that we need to collect information about your age.
  • our legitimate interest: as a company, we want to offer you the best service that works well and is safe to use, so we may decide that there is some information about your use of our service that we feel legitimate to know.
  • because you gave us your permission. Some information will only be collected because you agree to it, but we will always be transparent about the reason why we’re asking.

Unless we are obliged by law to collect your data, you can refuse to give your permission, at any time. For example:

  • You can choose to say yes or no to Dailymotion using your information for ads or other purposes;
  • If you don’t want us to use your data, you can change your settings or opt out via the “Manage Cookies” pop-up page (accessible from the footer of the Dailymotion homepage). It may mean you’ll see ads that aren’t as relevant to you.

Who can we share your data with?

  • The third party you logged in with (ex. Google),
  • Trusted Business partners like tech companies, advertisers, content uploaders,
  • Service providers we work with,
  • Authorities if required by law, or legal counsels to protect our rights.

How do we collect data?

We can use “cookies” (not the ones you eat! It’s another word for “trackers”) to remember your information and preferences when using our platform. For more information about how it works, we created a “Cookie Policy“:
it contains information about the cookies that Dailymotion and its partners use, the role they play in helping us provide the best experience to you and how you can manage these cookies.

We can also sometimes just take a guess on your data, without knowing it for sure. For instance, Dailymotion uses algorithms to recommend videos and ads. These tools may estimate information like your average age range or interests based on your activity, but it does not mean we know for sure how old you are or what are your actual interests: we rely on probability.

Your Privacy rights and choices

  • Access your Data: You can ask us to see what information we have about you.
  • Change or Delete your Data: You can ask us to delete your data or correct it if it’s wrong.
  • Opt-Out: If you don’t want us to collect certain data, you can change your settings or contact us to opt-out.

You can find more detailed information about your personal data rights by accessing this page from our Help Center: https://faq.dailymotion.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012596819-Your-personal-data-rights.

If you’re under the age needed by your country to use Dailymotion, usually between 13-16 years old, you can’t sign up without a parent’s permission.

When you simply visit Dailymotion without creating an account, we won’t be able to know how old you are. However, we try our best to keep you safe! To do so, we hide sensitive content by default.

How do we protect your data?

Dailymotion uses tools and security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, hacking, or misuse.
We recommend keeping your account safe by using a strong password !

How long do we keep your data?

Dailymotion keeps your data only as long as needed for:

  • the Dailymotion service to work;
  • legal obligations;
  • business purposes;
    When data is no longer necessary, we delete it or anonymize it.
